NEW CURRICULUM FOR YEAR 5

In Year 5 pupils design decoration for a tote bag.  The theme is the environmental impact of plastics in the ocean.  They learn how to design a suitable slogan and transfer it onto the calico bag before embroidering it with backstitches.  The finished product has an added motif of a sea creature to reflect their message, created using fabric pens or appliqué. Pupils can extend the task by adding further embellishment and more advanced techniques (such as an internal pocket or beading).  All practical work is supported with design and evaluation tasks.
